Review the 4 sufficient cause (“causal pie”) diagrams below. Assume that these are the only causal pies for our disease of interest.

a. How many sufficient causes are depicted? 
b. Name three component causes that are not necessary component causes. 
c. Name all of the necessary component causes.
d. If you prevent E and F, through how many pathways can you get the disease? 
e. If you prevent C and D, through how many pathways can you get the disease? 
f. What are the public health implications of the sufficient/component cause model? In other words, how might these models help to inform prevention or intervention strategies?
